Welcome to the home page of the Kate Osborn memorial tribute, "KOGKS."
Kate Osborn was a long-time fixture on the Marian College (now University) campus, first in the Learning and Counseling Center, then across the way at Marian Hall and a succession of responsible positions as Administrative Assistant to the Registrar, to the Assistant Academic Dean, and in the Office of Academic Affairs. Kate was awarded an "Honorary Knighthood" for her services to the School. Regretfully, in 2008, after seventeen years of heping students (and laboring to keep the school's "invisible" background processes running smoothly,) declining health required that Kate retire.
After a long and intractable illness, Kate died on Monday, March 28th, 2011.
The Marian College Golden Knights cycling team was and is a true marvel: a confluence of outstanding diligence, individual talents, teamwork, and pure striving. Kate long admired the Golden Knights, and was delighted by their splendid performances, when the Golden Knights won the NCAA National Collegiate Cycling Championship . . . and then won it again, and again. Year after year, despite being in David-and-Goliath competition with every other college and university in America that fielded an NCAA-accredited cycling team, the Marian Golden Knights achieved remarkable successes and a genuinely enviable record: 14 of the last 20 National Championships.

My goal here is to create a Scholarship to be awarded in memory of Kate Osborn to a student-athlete of the Marian University Golden Knights cycling team annually. I hope that we can select the inaugural "Kate Osborn Golden Knight" in the Fall Semester of this year, 2011. After the cycling team roster is complete, the student-athlete Candidates will be evaluated for academic excellence, character, and financial need. Then one student-athlete will be selected to receive the 2011 Kate Osborn Golden Knight Scholarship, a one-time stipend intended to assist in defraying tuition, books, lab fees, and/or other costs associated with his or her Marian University classes, in hopes that having one less financial worry will allow the student-athlete to more rigorously focus, by just that much, on his or her Golden Knights Cycling Team training and competing. Being selected to receive the 2011 Kate Osborn Golden Knight Scholarship will not affect eligibility to be considered for a future award; and whether a candidate is a member of the Class of 2012, '13, '14, or '15 will not be a factor the Board considers in the selection process, either.
Thank you for visiting the KOGKS Home Page. More content and features will be added over time; I would like for this site to become a meetingplace for the friends, the students, and the loved ones (there was little to distinguish between the three) of Kate Osborn. A photo albums, "Tribute" space for remininces, updates on the status of the KOGKS Board, fundraising opportunities and events, and other items will be appearing here in time. Regarding Federal Income Tax deductibility: The process is in train of acquiring the status KOGKS must have before your donations become deductible. Matters are proceeding. But that status is not yet in place. And until it is, KOGKS can make no assertion or claim of tax deductibility, or lay out any schedule or prediction of when that status might be approved by the Government. I am sorry that this is the fact. If, however, you wish to make a donation despite such a donation's ineligibility for deduction, it will be most gladly welcomed and you may be assured it will be used as carefully and to the best effect we can possibly achieve. Since the point of the KOGKS is to make the name of Kate Osborn shine as brightly at Marian University in the future as it does now, we can do no less.
I hope you do choose to donate. All donations of any size whatsoever will be welcomed, with gratitude.
You may contact me anytime; I welcome your questions. With luck that function will soon be managed here, but in the meantime my personal e-mail address is <<d@KOGKS.org>>.
And please do sign our Guest Book, so others can see you've visited!
